Understand the battle between sharpness and Fluidity.
One of the most asked questions in the universe of the single-property website is ” why do my photos look poorer than when I view them on my computer?” It is a sad but recurrent question. There can be multiple reasons and multiple solutions for this. Originals file, compression, noises, etc. In these articles, we will go over these multiple facets to understand this situation and to help you solve it.
The first thing you do, when you are planning to offer a single property-website for your client is to go to the property and shoot it. As a professional or amateur photographer, you probably know that all cameras have their force and their weakness. But most of them can be overruled by some changes in your camera settings. The most important thing to improve would be the noise. Generally speaking, noise is defined as aberrant pixels. That means pixels that are not representing the colour, or the exposure of the scene correctly. Noise is created in your images when you shoot a long exposure or shoot at a high ISO setting. This does not mean that you should never go over ISO 100 or do long exposures. There are times that you may need, or even want, to shoot in those conditions. But you would need to deal with it in post-production.
What can help you reduce noise on your camera:
- Shooting at a lower ISO
- Shoot in RAW
- Check your exposure
- Avoid long exposure if possible
- Use in-camera noise reducer or use a post-production software like Lightroom to reduce noises
The second thing you would need to do once shooting is done, is to process your images. HDR fusion, white-balance correction, reduce noises, etc.
You are now ready to upload your images into Tourbuzz to create your single-property website. We provide a guideline to help you provide a high-quality image to your client;
- File Size: up to 1500MB
- Image Size: up to 60MP (megapixels) for stills and 65MP for panoramas
- Still Images: 1920x1280 or greater (up to 4200x4200)Print-Quality Images: Upload 2.4 Mega Pixel or better.
- 300 DPI
If you choose to upload the highest quality available, you will increase your quality on your Tourbuzz tour. Keep in mind that if you are using the Ken burn effect, the zoom in and fade-out effect in your slideshow, even if you have the clearest image uploaded, since they are moving they will be slightly blurry in movement.
The last step that your images will go through is compression. The ppi for the images will be compressed to 72 ppi, but know that we do it for a good reason. We compress photos to web-standard levels to provide a better viewing experience and reduce loading time. If we keep the images as their original size it would have longer loading time between the images.

If you have followed the listed recommendations, you should have good quality images for your tour. However, if you neglect the recommendations, the compression could amplify the visibility of noises and aberrant pixels. The results of this would be a blurry image. If you have neglected to upload the highest quality format possible, your images will not look bad, but we will compress into a low format/quality image which will not give you the best image possible.
In conclusion, If you are looking for quality, sharpness, and high resolution as most photographers are, if you follow those guidelines, you will achieve your goal to give the best quality possible on a virtual tour to your client.
